Song of Highbury light the parade

Tiger Skins of Sunlight, a collection of movers, shakers and magic makers present 'The Song of The Woods'.  With a community willow lantern parade and singing from Ark Tindal Primary Academy and King's Heath Primary school choir, we are holding a beautiful winter celebration in local parks Cannon Hill and Highbury, with a live open air film screening of a shadow puppet story featuring the song 'The Woods' by The Phlox of Pink.

Join us for the last performance Thursday 27th November at 6pm (prompt) -7pm in Highbury Park, King's Heath (meeting by the High Street entrance).

Our finale evening event will be held at The Old Printworks 06/12/14 with a final screening of our film and live performance by The Phlox of Pinkstarting at 9pm (18+ £3) A full moon, stunning celebration showcasing the work of the community and all of the artists involved!!!

Cleanascene at Ort

I popped in to see cleanascene exhibition at Ort Gallery  last week, and had a chat with our very own HGA  Ian Edwards, also a photographer, and part of the team of people who helped coordinate the event with cleanascene.

I recorded a quick podcast with ian explaining more about the event on 7th july 2013, where over 1000 people converged on Nelson Mandela/ Spark Green Park (collecting litter the whole way) for a celebratory arts day, the exhibition now on at Ort, and the ambition for Balsall Heath in the future.

Life's Rich Pageant

It's 1938 and Birmingham councillors are under pressure to do something to celebrate the centenary of the city, when Cllr Rigby suggests putting on the biggest pageant the world has ever seen.  Birmingham History Theatre Company document the trials and trivialisations of a pageant documenting the whole of Birmingham's history, from the stone age to 1938 (with a little artistic licence).

Ort Surgery

A fanastic night at Ort Gallery for our art surgery.  Over 30 people attended for lively discussion about car culture, flamenco guitar, scrap sculpture, anglo-saxon storytelling, eco house design for 21st century, space exploration, family life, the shape of Balsall Heath and Kings Heath of the future, Art InsideOutside, art all over the place, graphics and cartoons...I've missed a few, but as someone put on their comment, there were a lot of very interesting folk there.  Also a great exhibition in the gallery, wine and nuts (thanks David), night of music (see video clip) after.

We've added quite a few more names to our mailing list, and was an excellent opportunity to discuss plans for the next six months, with the presentation of our Interim Report.  Also sad news that Tony Spencer can no longer be our Drum contact, through long term injury - we all wish him well.  However Ian Sergeant will be stepping in, and sure we'll all be getting to know him better soon.
